Five schools in the West and Mid-Suffolk areas are understood to have closed today as teachers strike over changes to their pay and pensions.
According to the Suffolk County Council school closures website, Ickworth Park Primary, Bacton Middle, Needham Market Middle, Stowmarket Middle and Riverwalk School are shut following action by the National Union of Teachers.
Meanwhile, a further 14 remain partially open.
Teachers are striking over the Government’s introduction of a performance related pay structure and changes to pensions, which would see them receive their pension at the age of 67.
The NASUWT has decided not to take part in the one day strike due to ongoing talks with the Government.
NUT bosses have argued that change in policy is needed to address teachers’ concerns.
However, the Government has said that talks are ongoing and raised concerns about the strike’s impact on children’s education.
