CYCLING-MAD school children are staying safe and getting fit after they took part in a special bike scheme.

Pupils at Raleigh First School in Thetford were shown the basics of bike maintenance and given the perfect start to their day as part of the Dr Bike and Breakfast Bike initiative last Wednesday.

Carol Doherty, from Thetford Healthy Town, said she and Carl Clark, a Thetford town councillor, visited the school to carry on the good work of the Bike It scheme, formerly run by Georgie Burr.

“Now Georgie’s gone it doesn’t mean the scheme has to end. The pupils and staff at the schools have really embraced the scheme,” she said.

Monday also saw Thetford pupils begin a challenge to ‘cycle to the moon’. Pupils from three schools will have their bike journeys totted up to promote health, safety and bike maintenance.
