Children wrap up warm for Age UK

CHILDREN at Elveden Primary School got their woolies out in support of Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign.
Dressed in orange clothes – a symbolically warm colour – and wearing bobble hats and scarves, the pupils got into the spirit of Friday’s Bobble Day.
They sold bobbles, orange cakes and orange squash in their breaks and after school, and even attempted to break the world record for the largest woollen pom pom.
Senior teacher Lorna Rourke, who organised the event, said the school was awaiting confirmation about the record-breaking attempt, which had to beat a height of 1.21 metres and a diameter of 3.25 metres.
“The children really enjoyed the day and I think it’s a great way to raise money and have fun at the same time,” she said.
A representative from Age UK was invited to speak during a morning assembly to explain to the pupils the reason behind holding Bobble Day, an annual fund-raising event which aims to prevent thousands of older people suffering needlessly during winter.
“It’s about how to contribute to the community as a whole and the children embraced that,” said Mrs Rourke.
