Children enjoy signing and singing
Children at Wood Ley Primary School in Stowmarket taking part in the big sing and sign event.
CHILDREN at Wood Ley Primary School have been taking part in the Sign2Sing event when schoolchildren across the country simultaneously performed a signing and singing song.
This is the second year the event has been staged and more than 200 youngsters at the Stowmarket school aimed to help break last year’s record of 94,489 participants.
The school held a themed day of songs celebrating cooperation, collaboration, communication and raising confidence.
Parents joined the children for morning assembley and took part in vocal warm ups and practised the special song which has been composed by charity SignHealth.
The children also performed the song on BBC Radio Suffolk and worked in teams looking at different signing activities.
Emma Potter, music coordinator, said: “The day was about using songs to celebrate children as individuals and to celebrate their differences, which fits with the idea of supporting each other.”
SignHealth supports profoundly deaf children, young people and adults in the UK, whose first language is the British Sign Language.
Schools across Suffolk took part in the event at 2.45pm.
