King Edward VI students Tony Diver and Paige Franklin took part in the Cambridge Schools Union International Debating Competition - beating all state schools nationally.
The pair only lost to top private schools Westminster, Eton, Dulwich and St Paul’s Girls’ School.
Tony has been invited to trial for the England debating team.
In the previous week Tony won ‘best speaker’ out of 52 teams in the Nottingham National Competition and Paige was awarded a highly commendable fifth ‘best speaker’. As a team they came second overall.
More than 50 students at the Bury St Edmunds school take part in debating each week.
