Budding writers see their own stories in print

BUDDING authors had their work published in a book after winning a competition.

Pupils in Year 4 at Great Finborough Primary School saw their stories printed in Mini Sagas – Fictional Fun following their success in the Young Writers’ 2011 Creative Writing Competition for seven to 11-year-olds.

Among the winners were Jamie Gilson and Harrison Crouch for their tales, both titled Alien Jelly, Maddie Jones for Octopus Jewellery and Samuel Beales for Mike Moswoski.

Their writing is part of the school’s Big Write work, which sees workshops held every week with extensive writing opportunities focusing on a variety of different genres.

They produce a sustained piece of writing at the end of the week.

Headteacher Stephen Dodd said: “The competition came up and linked to the work we were doing.

“The children are very proud of their achievements and excited to receive their copies of the book.”
