A SCHOOLBOY’S fund-raising efforts in memory of his auntie has created some avid readers at his primary school.

Ryan Dalton, nine, staged The Bookworm event asking fellow pupils to bring in their books to be re sold to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

He also organised a book review competition.

Ryan’s event at Rougham Primary School last term has raised a total of £269.

The cancer committee at the school consisting of friends and parents has now raised a grand overall total of £734.42.

Ryan began fund-raising in memory of Shona Noble, from Thurston, who lost her life to cancer, aged 41.

The winner of the review was Poppy Bliss, who reviewed You’re a Bad Man Mr Gum, by Andy Stanton, illustrated by David Tazzyman:

‘This book is about a man called Mr Gum and he’s a very naughty man. He has a dirty orange beard, a very untidy house and a fairy that lives in his bathtub and if he doesn’t keep his garden tidy she’ll come out and hit him on the head with her frying pan.

In this story there is a girl called Polly who has to rescue a big dog called Jake from Mr Gum’s evil plan to poison him with poison meat.

I think this book is very funny and enjoyable for all ages. Once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down.

The pictures are quite funny but strange. I especially liked the end of the book but you’ll have to read it yourself to see what happens!’
