£5.5m for schools

COUNCILLORS have agreed to set aside £5.5 million for a proposed switch to two-tier education in Stowmarket and Stowupland.

Suffolk County Council’s cabinet has allowed the money to be included within the Children and Young People’s Services capital programme for 2012-15.

The funds would provide extra classrooms for primary schools to accommodate Years 5 and 6 as well as additional places at Stowupland High School.

A document presented to the cabinet meeting said schools were ‘keen to progress’ with the move and consult this year.

If a consultation was held this autumn, changes to the primary schools could be implemented from September 2014.
