VANDALS have caused £5,000 damage to a school roof – just months after a lead substitute was fitted to deter thieves.
Maria Curry, headteacher of the Forest Academy, in Brandon, pleaded with residents to come forward with information after the offenders smashed roof tiles last weekend.
Ms Curry believes the vandals were probably looking for more lead to steal but, upon finding only the lead replacement, turned to ‘mindless violence’.
She said: “This is just so depressing for the school. Anything we have to spend on repairs is money we can’t spend on the children.
“Brandon is a relatively small community – I am sure somebody must know something.”
The incident came just a week after trespassers had vandalised lettering.
It was the latest in a number of incidents where the school has been targeted. Last year saw lead stripped from the roof on at least four occasions.
