Driver rescued after crashing into barrier on A14

A motorist whose car had crashed into a barrier on the A14 was rescued by firefighters this morning.

The accident happened at around 1.20am on the westbound carriageway of the Ai4, between Thurston and Rougham.

A police spokesman said a green Mercedes had hit a barrier and gone into a nearside hedge.

Fire crews from Ixworth and Elmswell and the enhanced rescue tender from Bury St Edmunds attended the incident.

They found the vehicle off the road in trees and released one person from inside.

An ambulance was also called.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “All parties were assessed at the scene and no-one was taken to hospital.”
