Nine families across the West Suffolk area received an extra special Christmas present as they welcomed new arrivals.
West Suffolk Hospital’s maternity department had a busier time than usual on Christmas Day with several babies born in the early hours.
However, the nine newborns weren’t quite a record-breaker as the hospital oversaw 13 deliveries about 10 years ago.
The first Christmas Day baby was at 2.08am with Audriaus Pavelcikas, 24, and partner Laura Steponaviciute, 20, of Thetford, welcoming baby son Tajus, who weighed 7lbs 3.5oz.
Others on the big day included Marley James Warner who was born at 11.35am weighing 7lbs 5oz to mum Jessica Warner, 23, of Wyverstone. Marley had been due on January 2. Miss Warner said: “It was a surprise for him to come on Christmas Day. If anything I was expecting him to be overdue.”
At 3.50am, Katherine Morris, 26 and Mark Cowell, 32, of Stowmarket, welcomed their first baby Henry weighing 7lbs 3oz.
Jules Dann, 38, who lives in Oxford but is staying with her parents in Bury St Edmunds, had daughter Isla Jasmine Elliott Dann at 6.53am. She weighed 6lbs 15.5oz and had been due on January 2.
