Award winning author Derek Landy, famed for his Skulduggery Pleasant series of fantasy novels, was at Waterstones in Bury on Saturday signing copies of his latest book The Maleficent Seven.

Landy’s visit was only one of four UK dates this year by the best selling author from Dublin whose first novel in 2007 won the Red House Children’s Book Award,

Playing with Fire and Mortal Coil both won the senior Irish Children’s Book Award, in 2009 and 2010.

Fans began queueing in advance of his signing and some of the 250 people who turned up had brought along all eight of his successful books in the series.

People were given time to quiz the author who signed with humour, personalised doodles and genuine gratitude for the loyal fan base.

One Jack Taylor, 10, said: “He’s the coolest author in the world.”

The Maleficent Seven is a stand alone tale based on events inspired by the Skulduggery Pleasant series.
