Fire crews and police were called to the building, in Hollow Road, at 7.41am last Friday morning.

The fire, which police believe was started deliberately, had already swept through the 12 room building, which is spread over two floors, destroying furnishings and equipment.

“A staff member called me in desperation upon discovering the smouldering black building,” said Mr Robbertse.

“You do not expect something like this to happen in Bury St Edmunds and it is soul destroying.

“We will be reassessing where and how to carry on the business in the New Year.

”The staff have been brilliant with cleaning up and reorganising.”

Adept Dental Laboratory was founded more than 40 years ago and provides dental prosthesis for surgeries across East Anglia.

It was one of the first laboratories in Suffolk to produce crown and bridgework.

Mr Robbertse took over as managing director of the business in 2007.

Police believe the fire was started at some point overnight from 7.30pm onwards on Thursday, December 8.
