A DAY care service for elderly people in Mildenhall is to be reduced following a 60 per cent cut in funding by council bosses.
Gatehouse is being forced to drop one of its two weekly groups for over 65s at St John’s Roman Catholic Church from April.
The move follows major cutbacks by Suffolk County Council to the Mildenhall group’s £43,000 annual budget.
The sessions give 31 pensioners the chance to socialise.
Amanda Bloomfield, project manager at Gatehouse, said its services in Bury St Edmunds were ‘secure’ as they had more private customers and received funding from other trusts.
She is appealing for volunteers to drive people to and from the centre in Mildenhall or for businesses to sponsor the cost of the transport.
