More than 110 cyclists have pledged to go the extra mile for a new charity ride in aid of West Suffolk Hospital.

The West Suffolk Spin, supported by the Bury Free Press, will see fund-raisers take on a 25, 50 or 100 mile course around the hospital’s catchment area as well as a family fun ride in Nowton Park.

For the event on Sunday, May 29, cyclists can choose to support one of six hospital departments.

Organised by West Suffolk Hospital Charity’s special events committee, more than 110 people have already signed up through an early bird offer, which ran until the end of January.

Paul Rayner, chairman of the special events committee, said: “We’re delighted with the initial response to the West Suffolk Spin and to hit the 100 mark so early is fantastic.

“It is something for all the family, coupling the fun ride with challenging distances for enthusiasts, plus everyone who takes part will be participating in a brand new West Suffolk cycling route while supporting their local hospital.”

The event is supported by Revel Outdoors and the Bury Free Press. Editor Paul Richardson said: “We’re thrilled to be backing this local event which does so much to promote healthy living and regular exercise while supporting our fantastic local hospital.”

Entry is just £25 with participants able to choose one of six areas of the hospital to support - emergency department, general, cancer services, women & children’s services, stroke services and cardiology.

Fund-raising thereafter is optional and can be for any area of the hospital.
