AN MP who officially opened a sports clubhouse will be joining the club’s 50 members for games this summer.
MP David Ruffley declared the Bury St Edmunds Croquet Club’s clubhouse open in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Victory Sports Ground on Saturday.
He said: “After seeing the facilities today and swinging a mallet I have been persuaded to pay my membership fee and start playing this summer. It’s a vibrant club and the important thing is that it’s self financed.”
Fund-raising for the new clubhouse began last Spring and although the building was completed in September, its official opening was delayed until the start of the new season.
The club, which was founded 26 years ago, has an all weather court and three full size grass lawns. It will be holding free taster sessions on Sunday. For more information go to: www.burycroquetclub.co.uk
