Two teenagers were arrested on Thursday night after an incident of criminal damage in which a bench was ‘smashed up’ on Moreton Hall, in Bury St Edmunds.

A group of around 30 youths were reported to have gathered in the Lawson Place shopping area between 7.30pm and 10.50pm.

Two benches were removed and taken into the underpass by The Coffee House, where police patrolling the estate disturbed the group in the process of ‘smashing one up’.

A police spokesman said the majority of the group ran off into the estate, but officers detained and arrested an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old on suspicion of criminal damage.

The pair arrested were taken to Bury Police Investigation Centre, but no further action was taken due to insufficient evidence.
