A woman was found with a knife in a Bury St Edmunds shopping centre.

At 2.30pm on March 17, a security guard asked Georgina Manning to leave the arc, knowing that she had been banned.

Prosecuting at Bury Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, Emma Howson said Manning brandished a 4in bladed kitchen knife before walking off.

Bail conditions prohibited her from returning to the arc, so police were called again when, on March 19, she was spotted sitting on a bench inside.

She refused to leave and kicked the leg of a police officer who had attempted to physically remove her.

In mitigation, Claire Lockwood said Manning had experienced ‘bad thoughts in her head’ and had sought help for mental health problems.

Manning, 49, of Petch Close, Bury, pleaded guilty to possessing a knife in public and assaulting a Pc. She was released on conditional bail until April 30.
