Police are trying to trace a man who approached a 17-year-old girl in Bury St Edmunds.

The girl was walking along Springfield Road towards the town centre at about 4.10pm on October 22 when she noticed a man close to the pedestrian crossing on Tayfen Road.

Police have said the man asked if she knew the time, which she gave to him.

The man then followed the girl asking if she was single and how old she was, touching her on the arm as he did so.

The girl told him not to touch her and walked away, the man walked in the direction of the nature reserve.

The man has been described as white, aged in his mid-twenties, around 6ft tall, of mudium build with short brown hair. He was wearing a brown T shirt and is described as speaking with an English accent.

Police are linking this to a similar incident in Springfield Road on Thursday 10 October, when a 14-year-old girl was approached by a man who asked her if she was single and would she go on a date with him.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact PC Louis Blackburn at Bury St Edmunds Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
