A NEW chairman of Suffolk Police Authority has been elected.
County councillor Joanna Spicer, of Pakenham, replaces Colin Spence in the role.
Mr Spence stood down following his appointment to Suffolk County Council’s cabinet last December.
Cllr Spicer has been a member of the police authority for almost 22 years and has held various positions in that time.
She said: “The authority and constabulary will be entering unprecedented circumstances over the coming year, which will involve significant challenges as we prepare to hand over responsibility and governance to an elected police and crime commissioner in May 2012.”
Cllr Spicer promised to work with constabulary colleagues to ‘sustain and improve the current high performance’ of the police force.
She added: “We intend to leave a legacy of a safe, strong and respected police service for the people of Suffolk.”
