Murder victim’s family appeals for witnesses to come forward

The family of murder victim Mary Roberts have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Mrs Roberts, nee Ashton, 50, was found dead behind St Edmund’s Tavern, Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds on Wednesday March 27. Two men from Bury were arrested on suspicion of murder the following day and bailed to appear at the town’s Police Investigation Centre on June 4 and 5.

She had four sons and a daughter and yesterday the family issued a statement through the police saying: “Mary was a lovely mother and grandmother who was extremely protective of her family. She was kind, caring and very thoughtful always putting others before herself. As her children we could not of asked for a better mother and she will be deeply missed by us all.

“As a family we ask if you do have any information regarding what happened to Mary or saw her in St Edmunds Tavern Bury St Edmunds on the evening of Tuesday 26 March 2013 through to the morning of Wednesday 27 March 2013 could they contact the Suffolk Police Major Investigation Team on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

A police spokesman said: “We would also like to speak to anyone who had seen Mary in the days leading up to her death.”
