A man who stole catalytic converters from a Needham Market industrial estate has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Arturas Kairys, 29, claimed to have found the converters which Ipswich Crown Court was told were valued at £6,000.
Four had been stolen from BTS Group and one from Aquajet Cleaning Equipment on the Lion Barn Industrial Estate on October 13 last year.
When interviewed by police Kairys claimed the five converters had been stolen by someone else and he had “stumbled across them”, said Michael Crimp, prosecuting. Kairys, of Beverly Road, Norwich, had pleaded guilty to theft and was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment suspended for two years.
Judge David Goodin also ordered him to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and imposed a curfew.
