A MAN has found himself at the centre of a murder investigation after an ex-soldier died following a fight.
Daniel Duckworth, 35, formerly of Parsons Close, Brandon, is on remand after he was charged with grievous bodily harm for an incident that took place in Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire.
Richard Reynolds, 42, of Halifax, was left critically ill with serious head injuries following the incident on May 13.
Mr Reynolds, a former paratrooper and self-employed tree surgeon, was rushed to Leeds Infirmary, but died of his injuries on May 25.
West Yorkshire police have now launched a murder investigation.
Duckworth, now of West Street, Sowerby Bridge, had been bailed to remain in Brandon after a court appearance on May 17. He was ordered to report to Brandon police station each day and had to adhere to a curfew.
A 30-year-old woman had also been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in connection with the attack. She has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
The incident took place near the Roxy Venue in Wharf Street, Sowerby Bridge, at around 9.45pm on May 13.
Duckworth was charged with section 18 wounding after the incident and was due to appear at Bradford Crown Court on May 24.
But he has now been remanded in custody until the next hearing of his case on June 27.
Duckworth remains accused of grievous bodily harm and battery, according to police.
An appeal for witnesses has been made.
