A Thetford man has been jailed for three years after attempting to rob an elderly woman in the town last month.
Peter Bramley, 48, of Old Market Street, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and of having an article with a blade in a public place when he appeared at Norwich Crown Court.
He was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court on Monday.
His victim was attacked in a car park in Guildhall Street, Thetford as she was loading shopping into her car.
Bramley approached her and her 90-year-old husband and wrapped his arm around the woman’s neck and demanded money from her.
She resisted him and a member of the publkic intervened and chased Bramley off. he was caught and arrested by police shortly after the incident,
Inspector Terry Lordan, local policing commander for Thetford, said: “This was a particularly cowardly and despicable crim where the offender has targeted an elderly lady and subjected both her and her husand to a terrifying ordeal.”
