A FORMER Suffolk Pc from Thetford has been jailed for nine months for possession and production of indecent images of children.
Ian Reynolds, 44, of Juniper Close, Thetford, was sentenced at Norwich Crown Court on Wednesday having pleaded guilty to possessing 120 images of child pornography at a previous hearing.
The court heard how Reynolds, who worked for Suffolk Police in Horringer, tried to kill himself with an overdose before officers arrested him in Thetford Forest. He had fled to the forest on March 16 after learning that police were looking to arrest him.
John Farmer, prosecuting, told Judge Paul Downes how Reynolds had served in Northern Ireland and the Gulf War during his time in the RAF before serving 16 years as a police officer. He was also a coach and player at Thetford Rugby Club where team mates had called him ‘Burt’.
“A search of his home involving breaking into the safe which revealed a mobile telephone with 120 images of child sexual abuse.
“One picture of level three was being used as the wallpaper on his phone and all would have been accessible if the mobile was used by another person,” he said.
Mr Farmer said Reynolds had collected 67 level one images, eight level two, 15 level three, 29 level four and one level five with some images involving girls as young as two or three.
Micheal Clare, in mitigation, said there had been no suggestion that Reynolds had been distributing the material.
“It hardly needs me to say he’s lost everything,” she said.
Reynolds was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years, given a sex offences prevention order for five years and ordered to pay £500 costs.
