Police are appealing for information after a man posed as a bathroom fitter to get inside an elderly couple’s house and stole cash.
A man posing as a bathroom fitter called at the home at about 11.15am and said that he was fitting a bathroom in a nearby house and he needed the water in the couple’s kitchen turned off.
The woman said she didn’t know how to do it and he told her that running the tap would be acceptable as it would drain the system. The man left as the tap was run and when he returned a short time later he was challenged by the woman’s husband so he ran off.
The house was then found to have been searched and cash had been stolen.
The man is described as white, in his early 30s, 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build with short dark hair and a round face, and was wearing a grey sweatshirt and jeans.
Anyone with any information should call West Suffolk CID on 01284 774100.
Police are urging members of the public to be vigilant against distraction burglaries and are reminded to prevent access to anyone who calls at their door whose identity they are unsure of.
