Ten former members of Stowmarket Concert Band have started legal action seeking damages for sexual abuse by its leader Derek Cable.
Cable, formerly of Edgecombe Road, Stowmarket, was sentenced to four years jail in 2003 for 10 charges of indecent assault and five of gross indecency against boys.
Andrew Grove of Andrew Grove and Co Solicitors, Cambridge, said that by registering a claim form with Cambridge County Court last week they had ‘stopped the clock’ on the time limits on bringing a case and given defendants, Cable’s employers Suffolk County Council, ‘notice we’re serious’.
He said there is still time for victims to join the action, but they must have substantial claims because reforms to reduce minor claims came in on Monday. Mr Grove can be contacted on 01223 367133.
The County declined to comment on an active case.
