Polish police arrest man wanted for questioning in jeweller murder inquiry

A 28-year-old man Suffolk Police wanted to question in connection with the murder of jeweller Peter Avis in Bury St Edmunds on January 13 has been detained in Poland.

Polish Police arrested Pytor Melaniuk last night in connection with an unrelated matter.

Suffolk Police are now liaising with the Polish Authorities and the Crown Prosecution Service with a view to beginning the extradition process.

Eight other people have been charged in connection with the burglary and murder of Mr Avis’ shop in Abbeygate Street.
