Police in hunt for mystery man seen in homes

A MAN who walked into two flats while people were there is being sought by police.

The man, described as looking like BBC EastEnders villain Phil Mitchell, left a woman and a pub landlord shaken last Thursday – but he stole nothing.

Melanie Marsh walked into the living room of her flat in Old Tannery Square, Stowmarket, between 4pm and 4.30pm and found him looking out of the window.

“It was very scary,” she said. “I just saw the figure in the dark and couldn’t believe it. It was the worst feeling ever. I can’t believe I was shaken up so much.”

The man said he was looking for a dentist, then swore and walked out.

Though he appeared to have made a search, he took nothing, ignoring cash and keys laying nearby.

As Miss Marsh talked to police, Richard Farley, landlord of The Swan, in Needham Market, found the man coming out of a bedroom in his pub flat.

“It was quite scary,” he said. “I grabbed him and said I was calling the police, then he went one way and I went the other.”

The man had been through wardrobes but taken nothing. Mr Farley said: “He’s obviously not right because if you’re going to make a burglary, you steal things. He had a phone in his hand and I wondered if he was taking pictures.”

Mr Farley said the man looked like Phil Mitchell and police issued a description that he was white, in his 30s, around 5ft 7in, stocky, bald with a prominent pointed nose and wearing a black jacket and trousers.

Anyone with information should call DS Tam Burgess at Bury CID on 101.
