Police investigating ‘gun incident’ at Suffolk education centre

Suffolk Police are investigating allegations that a teacher held a gun to a pupil’s head and threatened to kill him at an educational unit.

A police spokesman said they had been contacted by a member of staff at Suffollk County Council on Friday (8) who had been told by students at the education centre that their teacher had brought a gun into class four days earlier.

Officers went into the centre the same day and students confirmed their teacher had shown them an antique gun.

The teacher was then visited by officers who searched his home for unlawful firearms. None were found but a de-commissioned antique firearm was voluntarily surrendered to firearms officers.

A police spokesman said the teacher had been questioned and advised. Officers are liaising with the centre and the educational authority, and the investigation into the gun threat allegations is ongoing, the police spokesman said.

The centre has not be identified for legal reasons.
