Man kicked dog as it ‘did not speak English’

A man has appeared in court after neighbours witnessed him kicking his 9-month-old puppy against a kitchen door.

Julian Hulls, 42, of Well Street, Bury St Edmunds, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a collie, rotweiller, French mastiff cross, named Kye, at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Hulls received a 18-month supervision order and was banned from keeping pets for five years.

Lesla Small, prosecuting, told the court that Hulls’ neighbours were awoken on August 5, this year, by the sound of a dog squealing.

They witnessed Hulls kicking Kye into his kitchen door, through a window.

In a police interview Hulls admitted kicking and punching the dog.

He told police he used physical discipline as ‘the dog did not speak English’.

David Shipman, mitigating, told the court Hulls admitted he ‘lost it’ that day.

Hulls was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work, pay compensation of £163. and £85 costs, he will be monitored by the probation service for 18 months.
