Lavenham crash driver was nearly three times drink drive limit

A Lavenham man who was close to three times the drink drive limit when he overturned his car, was told by Bury St Edmunds magistrates he was ‘lucky’ to avoid prison.

Brett Welham gave a reading of 227 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood - the legal limit is 80 milligrammes of alcohol.

Welham, 36, of High Street, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol and other motoring offences on Friday.

He was banned from driving for two years, to be reduced by six months on completion of a rehabilitation course, and a 120 hours of unpaid work. It followed a crash at Milden in September.
