Knives are shredded
MORE than 6,000 knives became scrap metal this week as the successful Bin a Blade campaign came to a close.
Suffolk Police have been collecting unwanted knifes and blades in a year-long knife amnesty and on Wednesday 6,125 were shredded at Sackers Recycling in Great Blakenham.
Special bins were placed at police stations around the county and four will remain in place in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Mildenhall and Lowestoft.
Holly Watson, from Sudbury, whose brohter died after a knife attack and who spearheaded the campaign was at the recycling centre along with Chief Constable Simon Ash and BBC Suffolk presenter Mark Murphy.
Mr Ash said: “This is immensely impressive.”
