Committal for escapee

A criminal who escaped from prison officers at West Suffolk Hospital has been committed for trial.

Andrew Farndon, 26, who had been jailed for grievous bodily harm, was remanded in custody in Ayr on Wednesday, to a date to be fixed, on firearms and traffic offences and for contravening the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act. Two others from New Cumnock, Ayrshire, where he was caught, have also been committed for trial in custody. None offered pleas. Gary Cowan, 43, from Peterborough, was on licence from jail in England and has been recalled. Iain Legge, 16, from Maidens, charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice was freed pending further investigation.
