Two councils are to discuss a new plan and financial strategy for further collaboration as they strive to make millions of pounds in savings.
St Edmundsbury Borough and Forest Heath District Councils will consider a draft West Suffolk Strategic Plan and Medium Term Financial Strategy for 2014-16 at an extraordinary overview and scrutiny committee meeting in Mildenhall on Wednesday (January 22).
The strategic plan’s priorities include economic development, resilient families and communities as well as housing.
Both authorities are facing a budget gap of £2.3 million in 2015-16 and have already saved £3.5 million in savings by sharing services.
Cllr John Griffiths, leader of St Edmundsbury, said councils ‘must, and can, do things differently to help communities become more self reliant’ as they become ‘less dependent’ on Government funding.
