MID Suffolk Distict Council has lost its battle for the compulsory purchase and development of a caravan site in Stowmmarket.

On Wednesday, the council was informed of the Secretary of State’s decision not to grant them a compusory purchase order on Forge Caravan Site in Combs Lane.

Cllr Marilyn Curran, Mid Suffolk’s portfolio holder for housing, said: “It is disappointing that the Secretary of State has not granted us the Compulsory Purchase Order for The Forge site. We now need to look again at how Mid Suffolk will meet the demand for 14-16 more pitches for the Gypsy and traveller community.”

John Matthissen, district councillor for the area, said: “I am disappointed at the decision but welcome the end of this stage of securing a sustainable future for the site, and note that Mid Suffolk District Council will be seeking a stronger working relationship with the owners so that the views of local people and the two parish councils can be effectively heard.”
