Bosses at West Suffolk Hospital will give residents the chance to comment on plans for new staff accommodation at a public consultation.
Initial plans include upto 160 bedrooms spread across three, five-storey buildings at the back of the site next to St Nicholas Hospice Care. The hospital is seeking outline planning permission from St Edmundsbury Borough Council and feedback from the consultation will be used to help draw up detailed plans.
Jacqui Grimwood, estates and facilities development manager, said the proposals will ‘provide colleagues with more modern, better quality homes while also reducing the amount we spend on maintenance and repairs’. She added: “It has always been our intention to work in partnership with a housing provider to deliver the project so that the capital cost of the building work does not come from the NHS.”
The event is from 2.30 to 7.30pm in the hospital’s committee room. Consultation closes on Oct 15 and the outline plans will be considered by the council later this year. The hospital aims to complete the project in the next two to three years.
