Conservatives hold borough council’s Abbeygate seat

The Conservatives have retained the St Edmundsbury Borough Council seat in the Abbeygate ward following a by-election.

Joanna Rayner triumphed taking 359 votes and beat the Green’s Mark Ereira-Guyer (236), UKIP’s Clive Reason (85), Liberal Democrat Christopher Lale (83) and Labour’s Quentin Cornish (76).

The election was triggered by the death of Cllr Charlotte Howard.

Voter turn out was 22 per cent.
