Read all about it – two centuries on

BURY Free Press’ 19th century predecessor is among the first newspapers available in the British Library’s online archive.

The archive went live on Tuesday at www1.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk with the Bury and Norwich Post from 1801 to 1900 among the first three million of the 40 million pages the library plans to have online within 10 years.

The archive can be searched by area, date, newspaper name or keyword, though you pay a fee, from £6.95, to read pages.

Bury and Norwich Post’s pages include reports on August 13, 1828 of William Corder’s Bury trial for murder of Maria Marten at the Red Barn in Polstead and the death of Norfolk-born Admiral Nelson in the November 13, 1805 paper.
