VILLAGERS have embarked on a seamless fund-raising project after stitching up a colourful patchwork quilt from men’s shirts.

Nine seamstresses produced the quilt which will be raffled off at a varied textile exhibition later this month to raise funds for St Clare Church, in Bradfield St Clare.

The show, in the church, has been organised by the Out of the Fold textile group, which is made up of 13 artists who create stitched textiles for exhibition and sale.

Their diverse work includes printing such as silk screen and other styles, quilting in many forms and various types of stitching and needlework.

Group member Penny Bamber, who oversaw the making of the quilt, said: “We did a traditional block pattern because we’re all quite mixed ability.

“I wanted to give it a modern twist so I did the border in denim. I thought it would appeal to everyone.”

The exhibition, Textiles in the Church, will be held on the Bank Holiday weekend from August 25 to 27 and September 1 and 2 from 10am to 4pm. It can also be seen from August 29 to 31 from 2pm to 5pm.

Tickets, which are £2 in advance and £3 on the door, are available from (01284) 386636 and 388637.
