After three years of fund-raising and eight weeks of labour by the local community West Row’s new play area has opened its gates,
Michael Peachey, chairman of West Row Village Hall and Playing Fields Association, said: “The project took a bit longer than initially hoped but it was worth the wait. We saved in excess of £25,000 through people volunteering their time and resources, which made a huge difference to what we were able to achieve.
“We were even able to order another item of equipment mid-way through the project.
“It’s good to finally see local children being able to enjoy the play area, the old one was in desperate need of an overhaul and we have now secured the future of the play area for another 20 to 30 years.”
The £55,500 spent on rejuvenating the play area and installing new equipment was raised through grants and fund-raising events.
Mr Peachey thanked those who had donated funding, time and resources to see the project completed.
