TENNIS courts which have been unusable for a decade have finally been reopened after villagers raised more than £70,000 to refurbish them.
On Sunday, Roy Hudd visited Stonham Aspal to officially open the village tennis, basketball and netball courts.
Villager Charlotte Mallett started fund-raising three years ago with the task of finding the £72,000 needed to refurbish the old courts.
She said: “It will be nice to use them after all these years.
“I used to play on them as a child and now I have children I want something for them to use.”
The community raised £15,000 themselves and secured grants from numerous sources to revamp the sports facilities.
The courts are already proving popular, being used by villagers of all ages.
