The Friends of Ickworth Church are staging a special tea at Horringer Community Centre on January 22.

The event is aimed at encouraging more people to join the Friends, a group of volunteers who look after the historic St Mary’s Church on the Ickworth Estate.

The church dates back to the mid 13th and 14th centuries and was given a £1.2million restoration in 2013 by its owners the Ickworth Church Conservation Trust.

This relies on public support to maintain and keep open the building and look after the churchyard.

The tea ,which is being held between 10am and 12pm, will be attended by the Marquess of Bristol, a trustee and chairman of the trust.

People will be able to meet volunteers and talk about the church and events there as well as finding out about how to become a volunteer or friend.

The trust is also keen to hear from local choirs and musicians who would be interested in supporting its fund-raising events.
