Two fire engines responded to reports of a fire at West Suffolk College, in Bury St Edmunds, today.
Fire crews were called to the college’s Construction Training Centre in Anglian Lane at 11.55am.
Students were evacuated for around two and a half hours while firefighters investigated the ‘smoke-logged’ building.
Vice-principal Martyn Wagner said the smoke had come from a dust extraction unit in the carpentry workshop.
A crew returned to the college later this afternoon to re-inspect the incident and found all was functioning well.
Mr Wagner praised staff and students for evacuating the building so quickly, and the fire service for its fast response.
He said there had been ‘minimal disruption’ to students
