There will be laughter and blisters as a group of friends dig out their best pyjamas to take part in St Nicholas Hospice Care’s Girls Night Out walk in Bury St Edmunds.

The Sole Sisters - otherwise known as Lesley Williams, Anne Hollocks, Bridget McMillan, Diane Hartnell, Tracy Carr, Nicky Riches, Nickie Young, Debbie Quick and Maria Pieretti who all work together at King Edward VI School - have decided to join hundreds of others and don their flashing bunny ears for the moonlight walk on Saturday, September 10.

Maria said: “The hospice cared for my partner Mike before he passed away in November, they have also supported me following his death so this is an opportunity to give something back.

“It is a great cause and it seemed fitting to take part and try to raise some funds.”

The team has decided to tackle the six mile route and is looking to step up their training over the summer months.

Maria added: “Some of us have taken part in the walk before; I did it last year so this will be my second year.

“It will be a lot of fun to be able to do it all together - there will be a lot of chattering and laughter - we wanted to call ourselves the walkie talkies but that name was taken.”

Since it started in 2009 the fundraising walk has raised more than £811,000 for the hospice.

Girls Night Out participants walk either 11.2 or six miles around Bury, while wearing pyjamas and flashing bunny ears.

They gather on Angel Hill as dusk falls, start the walk at 8pm and arrive back by midnight.

You can still take part in the walk and to register, pick up a form from the hospice in Bury St Edmunds, any of the hospice shops, or go to www.girlsnightoutwalk.co.uk
