A BOY who fought for a British title at the weekend trains up to five times a week at a sports facility in Moreton Hall.

Thirteen-year-old Joe Le Maire has trained under coaches from Unit One Gym, in Kempson Way, for more than two years.

On Saturday, the teenager from Lawshall challenged for the World Ring Sports Association Muay Thai British title against reigning champion Connor Butler, in what the promoter called ‘the fight of the night’.

And it was close, with Joe two points off a win after being winded in the fourth round.

“I’ve got to learn not to show that I’m hurt and just keep going forward because I’m better on the attack rather than the defence,” said Joe.

His training partner Hannah Turner, 12, also competed on Saturday, but her most memorable fight was in April, when she won her category in the Junior British Open.
