A HUSBAND and wife team of clergy have taken the leadership of the Church of England benefice in Brandon.

The Rev Laurence Whitford and the Rev Margaret Whitford took responsibility of the benefice, covering churches in Lakenheath, Elvedon, Santon Downham and Brandon, on October 13. They were inducted by Bishop Clive Young, the Suffragan Bishop of Dunwich, at a ceremony at the Church of St Peter in Brandon.

Mr Whitford said: “We had our first service on Sunday and held our first mid-week service at Brandon on Wednesday.

“We are experienced priests with 30 years between the two of us.

“The challenge of moving to a new benefice is getting used to a different place, the great joy is meeting all the marvellous people in the area.

“It helps enormously working together with my wife, it is wonderful that both of us are in the same business, understand what we have to do and can support and encourage each other. My own mother used to say two heads are better than one, and she was right.”

Mr and Mrs Whitford moved to the Brandon benefice from Bradfield on sea and St Laurence, part of the Chelmsford diocese.
