CHRISTMAS friendship was provided for 85 people in Bury St Edmunds who would have faced Christmas alone this year, thanks to volunteers and the Gatehouse charity which supports vulnerable people and needy families in and around the town.
Guests were invited to St Benedict’s School, in Beetons Way, where they were greeted with sherry and wine before sitting down to a three-course Christmas lunch.
St Edmundsbury mayor Ian Houlder was there with his wife Sue and Fr Philip Shryane, from St Edmunds Catholic Church, who gave grace.
Entertainment was provided by Fiona Kerr and Mike Cripps and each guest left with a wrapped Christmas gift.
This is the 15th year that Gatehouse has provided Christmas dinner for others and more than 50 people gave up part of their Christmas Day to share with others.
The charity delivered 210 hampers to needy people in the run up to Christmas and is aiming to distribute a further 50 or 60 after it received a late donation of food.
