A WHEELCHAIR basketball player is raising money for his team by pushing himself from St Edmunds to Sudbury.

Chris Rix, from Alpheton, with friend Jordan Hughes, will tackle the gruelling 16.5 mile journey on September 25.

The pair hope to set off from Tescos in Bury at 9am, reaching Sudbury Tescos at around 4pm.

Chris, 26, who has cerebral palsy, is aiming to raise £300 for the Bury Bombers, a wheelchair basketball team for both abled and disabled people, and for the Suffolk Spartans powerlifting club.

Chris said: “I have been playing basketball since I was 12 – my friend Jordan plays too, so I thought I would take him along aswell to keep me going. Because there are a lot of pubs and shops on the way, we thought we would pop in to collect money.

“I haven’t really done any training for it but I am pretty fit anyway from my basketball and powerlifting.”

Jordan, 16, from Fordham St Martin, said: “Chris will do all the pushing himself. He is the sort of guy who likes to follow through with his ideas.”
