Children at Great Whelnetham CEVC School had a special treat after school last Friday at its annual summer fair.

A host of entertainment and stalls filled the school playground with facepainting, a beat the goalie competition, tombolas, games and a barbecue.

Suffolk Police bought along a new police buggy for the children to sit in and parent Rob Nicholas, a fireman, turned up with a fire engine so children could have a go with the hose.

Headteacher Chris Lawson said: “This is the first time we have staged it after school, it has gone very well.

“Thank goodness the weather has stayed nice.”

Parent Hannah Morgan, from Bury st Edmunds, said: “For a school summer fair, having the police and fire service here is great.

“The children have been putting on the police helmets and firing off the hose - it has been brilliant fun.”
